- Alireza Arafi has been named to the interim leadership role. He is a top Shiite cleric (born 1959, age 67) and has held major posts: director of Iran’s nationwide Islamic seminary system, member of the Guardian Council, and member of the Assembly of Experts.
- The interim leadership council consists of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and Ayatollah Alireza Arafi.
- Heavy U.S. and Israeli bombing has continued into a second day, striking Tehran and key government and military command centers. The U.S. and Israel claim air superiority after degrading Iran’s radar and air defenses.
